OCH_Classes-01 (1)

I suppose it’s nearly always summer in LA, but technically speaking, summer is on it’s way! And what better way to get that summer beach bod back than by attending some of the FREE rec center classes this quarter! With ten classes on the schedule already, there’s a little something for everyone.

(1) Stand Up Paddleboard
On April 11th & May 9th, there will be a special class on learning the basics of stand up paddlboarding. The instructors are great and will guide you right through the process of taking on the sport. The class will take place on both days from 9:30 to 11:30am at UCLA’s Marine Aquatics Center. Remember, this class will only take place on two occasions, so don’t miss out!

(2) Challenge Course Hall
This challenge course will take place on April 11th, April 12th, and April 26th at Sunset Rec. These days will be dedicated to community building, trust, communication, and leadership.

(3) Rock Wall Orientation Hall
April 18th, May 2nd, and May 9th are rock climbing days at the John Wooden Center! With a belay orientation AND a climbing lesson, you’ll be ready to hit the rocks in no time.

(4) Self Defense
This is an all-quarter class. Every Tuesday from 8pm-9pm, Bradley International Hall will host a class on basic self-defense tactics and techniques. This class will run from week 3 and continue every week through week 9, so if you miss it one week, there’s always next time!

(4) Yoga and Relaxation
Don’t miss yoga on the hill, every Wednesday night starting week 2 and all the way through week 9. This class takes place from 6pm-7pm in De Neve B1 Lounge. The hour long class will consist of 45 minutes of yoga and 15 minutes of meditation. Always a great opportunity to relieve school stress or take a break from studying.

(5) Urban Kick
This is a 1 hour cardio kickboxing class that takes place every Tuesday night from 5:30pm-6:30pm starting week 3. It’s located in the Sproul Hall Lecture room, perfect for those of us living on the hill and are too lazy to walk all the way to Wooden for a workout. You can even catch your bplate dinner afterwards since it’s right there.

(6) Bootcamp Fun
Bootcamp is a total body workout focusing on strength and cardio. That means the class will consist of squats, lunges, pushups, abs, and more! Great way to get your weekly dose of cardio and maybe make a few friends along the way. The class takes place Thursday nights from 6-7pm in the Rieber Vista multi-purpose room. Runs weeks 2-9.

(7) Dancing on the Hill
Dancing on the hill is a breakdown class of the basics of dance. Every week, the instructor will teach a new dance style. This style could range anywhere from Hip Hop to Jazz to Salsa. Super fun times. You could be America’s next So You Think You Can Dance winner. The class takes place every Tuesday from 8-9:30pm. It is a little bit of a later class, but don’t miss out, because this only goes through week 6! Located in the Hedrick Recreation Room.

(8) Tennis on the Hill
Learn some of the basic techniques and rules of Tennis. The class takes place on the Sunset Rec Tennis Courts. It’s a walk-in class, so feel free to drop in anytime you please. But go soon because the classes end next week, week 3. Wednesday from 8-9pm. (Tennis racket advised)

(9) Arts on the Hill
From photography to DJ mixing to guitar and more. Don’t miss our art instructors every Tuesday until week 4. The classes take place from 9-10pm in the Hitch Study Lounge.
